Three teenagers are fighting for life in hospital following a serious crash in Sydney's south-west overnight.
Just before 10pm on Friday night, emergency services were called to King Georges Road in Roselands, following reports two cars had crashed.
NSW Police say a Subaru Impreza and a Lexus collided near the intersection of Payten Avenue, before the Subaru lost control, mounted the kerb and hit a tree.
The Subaru - which had three teenagers inside - caught alight before members of the public quickly pulled over to help remove the occupants from the vehicle.
Fire and Rescue NSW also rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze before it spread to nearby properties.
The driver of the Subaru, a 18-year-old woman, was treated by paramedics for chest and pelvic injuries before being taken to Liverpool Hospital - where she remains in a "serious but stable condition" on Saturday.
The two female passengers, aged 17 and 18, were treated for chest and leg injuries at the scene before they were both taken to St George Hospital.
The 17-year-old remains in a "critical condition", while the 18-year-old is in a "serious but stable condition."
The driver and sole occupant of the Lexus, a 28-year-old man, did not suffer from any injuries, according to police.
He was taken to Canterbury Hospital to undergo mandatory testing.
A 41-year-old man, who provided assistance at the scene, was treated for smoke inhalation before later attending hospital for further assessment.
A nearby resident spoke to Today reporter Sarah Stewart following the crash.
"A lot of people were worried the car was going to explode. I pulled the girl out of the car straight away, went around to the passenger, had a hard time trying to pull her out," Michael said.
"Another bloke came up...we pulled her through, whatever way we could get her out."
A crime scene was established for specialist officers to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Police confirmed on Saturday that the cause of the crash remains unknown.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
