The husband of missing Victorian runner Samantha Murphy, who has not been seen for four days, has been spotted visiting a crime scene established by police on Wednesday afternoon.

Micheal Murphy arrived at the scene, which is located just 500m from the couple’s home, after several items were found.

He was seen talking to police out of the window of his car before driving off.

The crime scene was quickly dismantled.

Just after 4pm on Wednesday, police confirmed the items were not believed to be related to Samantha’s disappearance.

The 51-year-old was last seen leaving her home on Eureka St, Ballarat East for a planned 20km run near the Canadian State Forest about 7am on Sunday and has not been seen since.

After she went missing, a CCTV image showing Samantha leaving the home wearing black half-length leggings and a brown singlet was released by police.

Police released another CCTV image on Wednesday, which they say shows the mother running past a house, away from the state forest, at about 7:16am.

“The footage was captured ... on Eureka St near the intersection of Warrenheip Rd and captures Samantha running in a north-easterly direction toward Yankee Flat Rd,” police said.

Residents who live in these areas have been urged to review any CCTV footage they have between 7am and 11am on Sunday.

An extensive search has been underway for four days involving the SES, search and rescue teams and mounted police.

The search has focused on the Canadian Forest area, with the nearby area of Mount Helena, east of Geelong Rd, a location of interest on Wednesday.

Over the course of the search police have so far only uncovered one clue — Samantha’s mobile phone pinging at a telecommunications tower 11km from her home.

Rough terrain has made the search difficult and locals have said there are mine shafts in the area, which are difficult to see.

On Tuesday, Samantha’s husband was too upset to speak publicly but told 7NEWS he is not giving up hope of finding his wife alive.

Murphy is Caucasian, about 173cm tall, with a slim build and shoulder-length blonde hair.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police.
