Contaminated mulch has been found at four schools in the NSW capital so far, including Allambie Heights Public School, Liverpool West Public School, Penrith Christian School, and St Luke's Catholic College.
St Luke's and Liverpool West will be closed to students, while Penrith Christian School and Allambie Heights Public School will remain open, but with areas cordoned off.
NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar said St Luke's had to close as there were 30 cubic metres of mulch provided that was spread throughout the campus.
"That was difficult to cordon off and contain," he told a press conference last week.
Meanwhile, North Sydney Public School, International Grammar School at Ultimo, St Michael's Catholic Primary School at Daceyville, and Westmead Christian Grammar School, have tested negative for asbestos.
Precautionary testing will take place at Domremy College at Five Dock, Edmonson Park Public School, Mount Annan Christian College, and Trinity Catholic Primary School at Kemps Creek.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority noted there was no evidence of contamination at those four schools.
So far, the list of contaminated sites across NSW, mostly centred in Sydney, is at 34.
An investigation into how the mulch became tainted by asbestos, is ongoing.
