'We miss you so much': Friends and colleagues pay tribute to Jesse Baird and Luke Davies ahead of vigil - 9News

Friends of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies have paid tribute to the "kind and loving" men ahead of a public silent vigil tonight in eastern Sydney.

It will be held in Green Park in Darlinghurst from 6.30pm and comes on the eve of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, where a Qantas float will also pay tribute.

Davies' friends described him as "incredibly kind" and a "special friend to so many".

"His smile lit up every room he walked into, and his cheeky eyes said so much without him uttering a word," his friends said.

"Luke lived his life with the attitude of saying yes to everything he could and with friends and family being his core values, you knew he was the friend to count on to join on your adventures.

"His energy was infectious, he would lift you up from your lowest points and even in his absence, his positivity continues to lift us up."

His friends hoped he would not be remembered for the tragic event but instead for his "beautiful soul, adventurous spirit and the joy he brought into all of our lives".

"He had the world at his feet and wasn't wasting a minute.

"Luke, we were so privileged to be a part of your life. We miss you so much."

Baird's friends and colleagues from Network 10 said he was the life of every party and was "kind and funny and genuinely interested in everyone around him".

"His life-loving attitude was infectious, and he was pure joy to be around.

"It didn't matter if you knew Jesse for five minutes or five years.

"He touched everyone's lives the moment you met him.

"That's what we want to carry with us, how lucky we were to know and adore him."

‌Baird's friends and colleagues thanked people for their support.

"The boys' network of friends has been brought together now to remember the huge amount of love and adventure they packed into our worlds."

The vigil is being held with the blessing of both of their families and there will be condolence books for people to sign.

Independent MP Alex Greenwich said he did not know the men but the memories shared with him showed they only brought positive energy and goodwill.

"Tonight is a solemn celebration of the lives of Luke Baird and Jesse Davies," Greenwich said.

"It's also a reminder of the importance of the LGBTQ community coming together, looking after each other, and looking out for one another."

Separately, Qantas will honour the life of Davies, who was a flight attendant with the airline, by placing his name on the front of its float at the Mardi Gras parade tomorrow.

He began flying with Qantas in 2022 and the decision came after a request by his colleagues at the carrier.

NSW Police have been re-invited to march in the parade but won't wear their uniforms.

There are also reports the Australian Football League is preparing a tribute to Baird, who was a goal umpire in 62 games, including two finals.

The AFL says that they will work with his family and also the umpiring association to organise a tribute In the weeks ahead.
