The University Admissions Centre in New South Wales has been forced to apologise after making a significant error.
The organisation mistakenly emailed 13,000 HSC students rejecting them from university courses next year.
Students have been told to disregard the message and they still have a chance at receiving a place in the January offers.
A UAC spokesperson apologised for the error and encouraged students to get in contact with questions.
"UAC sent unsuccessful letters in error yesterday and sincerely apologises for any confusion it may have caused," the statement said.
"We're here to help applicants unsure about their preferences for the next offer round and encourage them to contact us."
