Firefighters cut four people from the wreckage of a multi-vehicle crash that left two men pinned inside a burning truck in south-west Sydney on Thursday afternoon.

A cement mixer collided with a car, a ute and the truck on Widemere Road in Wetherill Park about 11.45am, causing the mixer to roll onto its side.

Two of the three passengers in the truck’s cab were pinned in place by the dashboard after it crumpled with the force of the crash when the truck caught alight, NSW Fire and Rescue said.

After attending to the fire, specialist firefighters from seven fire stations erected a platform at the front of the cab and used hydraulic tools to free the two men aged in their 20s. They were taken to Liverpool hospital with serious injuries. The driver was freed from the cab much sooner.

“They were in quite serious danger, especially when the truck caught alight, and [the pinned men] had clearly suffered pretty serious injuries,” a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.

A fourth man was freed by firefighters after they cut the roof off a Ford ute and used a hydraulic tool to push the door frame apart, at which point the man was able to crawl out.

NSW Fire and Rescue said the 19-year-old woman in a red Audi, who reported suffering a head injury, and a man in the cement mixer were able to exit their vehicles themselves.

The driver of the concrete truck, a man aged in his late 20s, has been taken to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory testing, police said.

The man in the ute and the 19-year-old Audi driver were taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

A crime scene has been established and police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
