Spate of fatal car crashes on NSW roads hours before Christmas - 9News

The festive season weekend has already proved deadly with six people killed on New South Wales roads in 48 hours.

The latest incident occurred on Sydney's Northern Beaches when a car struck a parked boat on South Creek Road in Cromer at 8.20pm last night.

The front seat passenger of the Holden station wagon died at the scene.

The man is believed to be 29 but is yet to be identified by his family.

The 56-year-old driver was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

He was released as police continue to investigate the crash.

Earlier yesterday, a 95-year-old woman was fatally struck at the intersection of Lopez Lane and Raymond Street in Bankstown around 3.30pm.

The 66-year-old male driver of the car, who's licence has now been suspended, has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted bail to face court next year.

At 5.35am yesterday, a 56-year-old man was killed after his silver sedan left the road and crashed into a tree at Rand, 70km north of Albury.

At 12pm on Thursday, a six-year-old boy was the passenger of a car travelling along Moulamein Road at Moulamein in the state's west, when the Toyota Hilux rolled and he was killed.

A four-year-old boy was also in the car and was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

At 4.30pm on Thursday, a motorcyclist, believed to be 19, was thrown from his bike after running into the back of a truck at Richmond Road at Berkshire Park.

He was flung into oncoming traffic and struck by a truck. He died at the scene.

At 6.45pm on Thursday, a Ford Fiesta and Mazda BT50 ute crashed at Mulgoa Road, Mulgoa, where the female driver of the sedan was killed.

The spate of fatal accidents has sparked NSW Police to call on motorists to be careful over the Christmas and New Year period.

"We urge people to think about others as you get behind the wheel. Irresponsible behaviour – including speeding, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and using your mobile phone while driving – can drastically alter your own or another road user's life," Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said.

"We all want to enjoy this festive season and by being a responsible road user, you are helping others to reach their destination safely and reduce road trauma."
