The bomb squad is responding to a suspected explosive device in Melbourne’s southeast.
Police were called to Cranbourne on Saturday morning to conduct a safety check on a man in a vehicle.
“Officers were called to Cranbourne Drive to conduct a welfare check on a man sighted in a vehicle about 11.50am,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“When police arrived the vehicle was unoccupied but a firearm and suspected improvised explosive device were located inside.”
Neighbouring properties on Cranbourne Drive were evacuated as a precaution.
The Bomb Response Unit is attending the scene.
”The male sighted in the vehicle is yet to be located and investigations remain ongoing,” police said.
