Flood affected areas expected to be lashed with another week of rain - Sky News Australia

Flood affected areas in NSW and south-east Queensland are expected to receive more heavy rainfall over the coming week. Find out what weather you can expect here.

Residents of flood-affected areas in eastern Australia can expect more downpours over the next week.

The Bureau of Meteorology announced NSW is expected to receive rainfalls ranging from between 50 to 150 millimetres throughout the rest of the week.

The Bureau warned residents in eastern Australia and flood-affected areas that a cold front was expected to move from eastern Victoria to south-eastern Queensland to bring “persistent showers” over the coming days.

Sky News Australia meteorologist Rob Sharpe said Tasmania was forecast to be hit by a “band of rain” while eastern Victoria can expect severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and heavy rain.

On Wednesday the cold front is expected to cross the border moving up to Sydney, the Blue Mountains and into the Hunter and is expected to bring thunderstorms in the late morning and early afternoon.

Mr Sharpe said the cool change on the east coast was expected to “stall” which he said often brought trouble, in this case the “wet weather kind of trouble”.

“We will continue to see those showers hanging on to the NSW coast right through the rest of the week,” he said.

“We will also have thunderstorms on a daily basis over the inland areas, Friday into the weekend is when the bulk of those storms will be active over northern NSW and up into inland parts of Queensland.”

Mr Sharpe warned there is the potential for the showers to extend through the weekend and into early next week as “another burst of southerlies” runs along the coastline.

Sydneysiders can expect between 50 and 100mm over the next eight days while more than 100mm of rain is expected for the flood affected areas.

“What we’re talking about for these flood affected areas is the nuisance rainfall for the clean-up,” Mr Sharpe said.

“Unfortunately it’s going to cause water levels to rise, there’s likely to be at least some minor riverine flooding as well so the rain event wont be as bad but it’s going to have significant impacts on those disaster zones in the northeast of NSW and south-eastern Queensland.”
