Deputy Premier Steven Miles today announced the package will include three significant elements to support victims of the recent devastating flood crisis.
The first part will offer grants of up to $50,000 to retrofit 5500 flood-affected homes, while grants of up to $100,000 will be on offer to raise up to 1000 homes.
In addition, $350 million will be offered for a residential buy-back program including up to 500 homes for people who do not wish to retrofit or raise their properties.
The second part of the package includes $50,000 grants for building and repair costs.
There is also a $30 million package for local governments to support with the clean-up costs.
"We think this is a world-leading initiative to ensure that we aren't just building back but that we don't put residents back into homes that will flood again," Mr Miles said.
The rollout of the money is now pending approval from the Federal Government to jointly fund the package.
"The Premier has written to the Prime Minister asking for their agreement to jointly fund this new package we certainly hope this agreement will come quickly," Mr Miles said.
Mr Miles also requested the federal government to match the $3000 hardship payments that NSW flood victims are receiving to also be provided for Queensland residents.
"The Premier has also asked the Prime Minister to match the hardship assistance payments which are now provided in all NSW local government areas but are not currently available in Queensland," he said.
"That's thousands of dollars more available to NSW residents and not Queensland residents.
"There's no argument or justification for the differential application of those payments.
"We would urge the Prime Minister to also ensure Queensland flood victims get the same support as NSW flood victims."
