Family slam ‘ghoulish’ claims Kitching was a ‘strategic liar’ - Sky News Australia

Claims of Senator Kimberley Kitching being a "strategic liar" published by an online publication hours before her funeral have been rubbished by family and friends.

The family of the late Kimberley Kitching has hit back at an online publication after it called her a “strategic liar” hours before family and friends said their goodbyes to the Senator in a touching service to celebrate her life.

Crikey’s correspondent-at-large Guy Rundle wrote an article titled “The true story of Kimberley Kitching and the Labor gang”, where he accused Ms Kitching of “personal corruption” and being an “established” liar.

In the piece published on Monday he said: “If I don’t believe Kitching’s claim she was being impacted by the factional conflict she was involved in, it’s because there is an established record of her being a strategic liar and of misusing official procedures, and good evidence of personal corruption”.

A representative from Ms Kitching’s family slammed the article as “false and ghoulish”.

“The author has a long history of psychotically hateful comments,” a family representative told SkyNews.com.au.

"We will seek advice on legal remedies to protect family members from further harm caused by him, his publication and any other online trolls."

Reports have emerged in the wake of the 52-year-old Senator's death that she was allegedly bullied by a faction of Labor “mean girls”,  Penny Wong, Kristina Keneally and Katy Gallagher.

The trio have refuted the claims in a joint statement released earlier this week.

“The allegations of bullying are untrue. Other assertions which have been made are simply inaccurate,” part of the lengthy statement said.

During the service, Ms Kitching's shattered husband, Andrew Landeryou, took aim at the "cantankerous cabal" who opposed his wife inside and out of parliament

He delivered a heartfelt eulogy at the memorial service in Melbourne on Monday afternoon before addressing the bullying allegations which came to light following her death.

Mr Landeryou revealed friends and staff of his wife of more than two decades, affectionately known as Kimba, “are angry about how she was treated”.

“Of course they are and I have no quarrel with them about that, they know what they saw with their own eyes,” he said.

“There’s a lot I could say about the unpleasantness of a cantankerous cabal, not all of them in parliament, that was aimed at Kimba and the intensity of it did baffle and hurt her.

“I hope it's sufficient to say she deserved so very much better.”

Last week, former Labor MP and close friend Michael Danby said Ms Kitching "certainly felt the stress" amid pre-selection threats.

He told Sky News Australia host Laura Jayes that the treatment of Ms Kitching by her Labor colleagues was “beyond fair treatment and differences of opinions”.

“It was nothing short of bullying,” he said.

“It’s a fine line, people are entitled to fierce disagreements, but it was too much in my opinion what was done crossed that fine line and people should say they’re sorry and they regret it.”

Senator Pauline Hanson also echoed the bullying claims, saying Ms Kitching would confide in the One Nation leader during their catch-ups inside parliament.

“She came up at times terribly frustrated at the way she was treated," Ms Hanson told Sky News Australia host Chris Smith last week.

"She was locked out of meetings, they wouldn’t include her in anything, she was frustrated with the policy she tried to put before the party.

“She was frustrated at policies that I put up, why the Labor Party would not support them.

“She tried to fight for issues that she thought was right for the country and the people.

“But she was always just downtrodden, especially by Penny Wong and Kristina Keneally.”
