Two dead in helicopter crash in Southern Highlands - Sydney Morning Herald

Two people have died in a helicopter crash in the NSW Southern Highlands, police say.

The alarm was raised about 6.45pm on Wednesday when the helicopter, which was believed to be on a training flight at the time, failed to return to its base.

Police said the helicopter was last seen near Marulan, about 25 kilometres east of Goulburn, and rescue crews soon began searching in rugged bushland near Tallong.

NSW Police Rescue officers found the helicopter wreckage about 12.25am on Thursday, and discovered the bodies of two people nearby.

The crash victims have not been formally identified.

Police were working throughout the night to recover the bodies of the victims, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and NSW Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police will prepare a brief for the information of the coroner.
