Holidaymakers have been advised to evacuate as a grassfire burns out of control in Victoria’s north-west.
A fire burning about seven kilometres south-west of Robinvale, a town close to the Murray River and popular with campers, has forced holidaymakers from the area.
Emergency Management Victoria issued a "watch and act" alert at 4.37 on Sunday afternoon, warning people the bushfire was travelling north-easterly and that the fire was not yet under control.
"The fire has burnt about 18 hectares and is generating a lot of smoke and embers," a CFA spokeswoman said.
"More than 20 vehicles, including tankers and strike teams, are responding to the fire. Crews are focusing on asset protection and will be working throughout the night."
The CFA is supporting the operation, which is being led by Forest Fire Management.
“Don't wait, leaving now is the safest option,” the warning reads, “conditions may change and get worse very quickly.”
“Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.”
A total fire ban was declared for Sunday in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and North Central districts.
