Californian hospitals 'on the edge of collapse'
Over in the US, things are looking pretty grim - hospitals in California are postponing surgeries and warning of rationed care as cases of COVID-19 continue to soar.
More than two million infections have now been detected across the state, and almost 25,000 people have died. Hospitals are under huge pressure, with exhausted staff struggling to cope.
Australian emergency doctor Mel Herbert has come out of retirement to help, and he said the worst was yet to come.
"The really terrifying thing is that this is not even the bad time yet. It's after Christmas, after New Year, we're going to have a three-week lag and then we expect another enormous surge. Honestly, the hospitals here will be on the edge of collapse."
