Coles supermarkets are experiencing a nationwide IT failure that has shut down registers and forced management to close stores.
Disgruntled customers across the country have posted photos to social media of shuttered doors and malfunctioning checkout registers.

Coles has more than 800 stores nationally.
Customers were forced to abandon their shopping trolleys and exit stores, leaving staff to return perishable food to fridges.
One customer in Asquith in northern Sydney tweeted that she was halfway through a shop when she was told all cash registers were not working.
"Off to Woolies," she wrote.
Others found the irony in Coles registers "going down", in a reference to the supermarket's catchy advertisements.
A Coles spokeswoman said it was not yet known what caused the outage and how long it would take to be repaired.
"Coles supermarkets are being closed temporarily due to a technical issue with processing payments in our stores.
"Our team is working hard to fix the issue and stores will reopen as soon as possible.
"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.
The spokesperson said Coles Express and Coles Liquor stores remained open for trade.
Meanwhile, Woolworths has taken advantage of its competitor's woes, tweeting that its stores were all continuing to trade as normal.
"Our payment systems are up and running," the tweet said.
