Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has claimed victory in the Queensland election, making her the first female party leader in the state to win three elections.
The win delivers Ms Palaszczuk the first fixed four-year parliamentary term for Queensland.
Speaking to a room of supporters at party headquarters, Ms Palaszczuk said she was confident of securing a majority government and acknowledged it has not been an easy year for "many, many people".
"For many Queenslanders, I know it's been a tough year, it's been tough not being able to see your family and friends in other states, or even around the world, as we've been in the midst of a global pandemic," she said.
"But here in Queensland we've all stood strong and united, and together we are on top of the pandemic.
"I know many people out there voted Labor for the very first time.
LNP leader Deb Frecklington conceded defeat at a function in Brisbane's inner-south.
Ms Palaszczuk said it was the first time two women have vied to become Premier.
"I want to commend the Leader of the Opposition for what I think has been a very good campaign," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"I think people might comment that it was a much more respectful debate than we have seen in times gone past."
The election victory caps off a nearly four-week campaign battle against the LNP leader, which was dominated by the handling of the coronavirus pandemic and its economic fallout.
More to come.
