Western Australia's Vaccine Commander, Chris Dawson, says he has been given a deadline of December 31 for 80 per cent of the state's eligible population to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Key points:
The state today reached a "milestone" of 70 per cent of the eligible community aged over 16 years having had their first dose.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have booked in to get their first dose has also reached 80 per cent which, Mr Dawson said, indicated Western Australia would indeed reach the target by that deadline.
"And we've reached the milestone of 50 per cent of our community who have received double-dose vaccination," he said.
"We need obviously to get the population double-vaccinated, that goal is within reach before the end of the year."
Western Australia is only slightly ahead of the Northern Territory as the jurisdiction with the lowest vaccination rates in the nation.
Mr Dawson said that, despite the slow start, he was confident the target could be reached by New Year's Eve.
"We know that, in order to maintain the way we live, we must get double-vaccinated."
