Questions from the audience
Good morning Bridget. Just wondering when Novavax may be available in Australia?-Vax to the max
Morning, Vax to the max.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Michael Kidd was asked about this over the weekend — here's what he had to say:
"So, at the moment we don't know when Novavax will become available. We're still waiting for Novavax to go through its processes of being assessed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
"My advice to people is do not wait. We have highly effective vaccinations available now, and we also know that we are going to get further community transmission now that lockdowns are being lifted and as we move through the phases of our national reopening plan.
"So, please do not wait for other vaccines, please get vaccinated now, and make sure that you and your family are protected."
Good morning. Just wanted to ask when can those from Melbourne Metro travel to Queensland and do we have to quarantine? Thank you-Mon
Morning, Mon — there's two key dates for you to chuck in the calendar: November 19 and December 17.
November 19 is when it's expected that 70 per cent of Queenslanders will be fully vaccinated. Once that happens, those who want to enter the state will be able to do so, but only under the following conditions.
They must:
- Be fully vaccinated
- Arrive by air
- Test negative to COVID 72 hours before arrival
- Quarantine at home for 14 days
The second date to remember is December 17. That's when 80 per cent of the state is predicted to be fully vaccinated.
At that point, people who are fully vaccinated and have been to declared hotspots in the past 14 days can cross into Queensland by car or plane.
Those travellers will no longer need to quarantine, but they will need to have a negative COVID test within the previous 72 hours.
I live in Sydney. Daughter and Darwin and sun in Brisbane. I can’t seem to work out when I might be able to fly up to visit them without having to quarantine. I’m double vaxed.-Denyse
Morning, Denyse.
It's all subject to Queensland hitting those above targets, but assuming things go to plan, you'll be able to visit your son in Brisbane (without having to quarantine) on December 17.
Unfortunately, all of New South Wales is a declared hotspot for the purpose of travel to the Northern Territory at the moment, so that rules out flying to Darwin (at least for now).
If you're not opposed to the idea of home quarantine, it'll be introduced for fully vaccinated domestic travellers arriving in the NT from November 23.
I should also point out, there aren't currently any travel restrictions between Queensland and the NT (so in theory your daughter could fly to Brisbane for a family Christmas in the Sunshine State).
