Queensland records zero new community COVID-19 cases after unvaccinated teen tested positive - ABC News

Queensland has recorded zero new community cases of COVID-19 a day after it was revealed an unvaccinated teen tested positive on the Gold Coast.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said it was "excellent particularly given we have had a few cases down on the Gold Coast".

"I feel fairly comfortable that … these cases have had very little exposure out in the community, we should be OK going forward," Dr Young said.

Dr Young said it was important Queenslanders did not get complacent with low community transfer of the virus, and got vaccinated and tested if they had symptoms.

"It's really important that people just continue to get tested if they have any symptoms at all, every single day," she said.

"We're seeing people coming into our state bringing the virus."

Dr Young said planning was set to begin for the rollout of another dose of vaccine to Queenslanders, six months after their second.

She said it was imperative people had their first dose this week to be ready for the state's border opening in December.

Queensland police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said the home quarantine trial for interstate travellers had been extremely successful, and police were considering how the programme could be expanded.

He said police were still waiting on a health clearance to be able to interview the COVID-19-positive Uber driver who arrived home from Melbourne on the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Authorities detected one case in hotel quarantine.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said there were 13,603 vaccinations administered in Queensland Health facilities yesterday.

She said 75.68 per cent of Queenslanders over 16 had received their first dose and 61.22 per cent had a second dose.

"The date of the 17th of December is coming very quickly so we need people to get fully protected, which means you need to be out getting your first dose this week," she said.

The government said it was making no apologies for enforcing a vaccine mandate for health workers, who will be shut out of their workplaces from Monday if they do not get the jab.
