NSW has recorded 333 new cases of COVID-19, with all but one of those cases being locally acquired.
An unvaccinated woman in her seventies died at Hornsby Hospital overnight, while a man in his sixties who had been double vaccinated died at the Albury aged care facility where he was infected.
His is the second death linked to that facility, NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty said in an update on Saturday morning.
Across the state, 469 people have been hospitalised with 123 of those people in intensive care.
Of those in intensive care, 96 were not vaccinated, 18 people had received one dose and nine people are double vaccinated.
NSW Health said on Saturday morning that 64,118 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Saturday’s case numbers were slightly lower than the 345 new infections recorded on Friday.
NSW Health say that 92.8 per cent of the eligible population has had one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 83.7 per cent of people over 16 across the state are fully vaccinated.
Sewerage surveillance has detected fragments of the virus in a number of areas with no known cases as yet, including Dungog, Braxton, Jerilderie, Wagga Wagga, Inverell, Bonny Hills, Coffs Harbour, Dunbogan, Bega, Narooma and Moruya.
Since restrictions began to ease, NSW Health believes there has likely been transmission in “high-risk” indoor venues like bars and gyms, Dr McAnulty said.
“It’s important we all use masks when indoors and maintain those COVID safe behaviours at all times.”
Dr McAnulty urged revellers to celebrate Halloween next week in a COVID safe way.
“Aim to get the celebrations outside, provide closed packaging for treats and instead of communal lolly bowls consider other ways to distribute treats. For example, along the front fence of the house or the front yard and keep it local.
“Don’t share face masks or costume face masks,” he said, encouraging people to stick to their neighbourhood and not Trick or Treat if they were unwell.
On Friday night, police charged a 20-year-old man at The Star Casino in Pyrmont for wearing a black balaclava instead of a facemask required under the Public Health Order.
It is alleged that the 19-year-old spat at arresting officers and two other men became involved in the fracas, with one allegedly punching a police officer in the chest.
All three were taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged, then granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court in December.
