The man accused of the murder of 23-year-old Victorian woman Hannah McGuire has faced a packed courtroom in Ballarat.
Sebastopol resident Lachlan Young, 21, is facing one count of murder following the discovery of Ms McGuire's body in a burnt-out car at Scarsdale last week.
Ballarat Magistrates' Court heard it was Mr Young's first time in custody.
Police prosecutor Steve Repac requested a period of 16 weeks before the case returned to court in order to allow time to prepare a hand-up brief.
"There are multiple crimes scenes that are being analysed," Mr Repac said during the proceedings.
He said a "number of items", including "CCTV hard-drives" would be subject to forensic analysis.
Mr Young's defence counsel, Crystal Caruana, initially objected to the time frame but later relented.
She told the court Mr Young needed antidepressant medication while in custody and that his family were present in court to give it to him.
"At this stage defence have been given nothing by police," Ms Caruana said.
"All information we have has been received by the media, at this stage.
"It would appear as though police have swooped very quickly in this matter."
Mr Young was remanded in custody.
The solicitor representing the McGuire family, Brooke Tamanika, spoke outside court today on their behalf, as they stood together in tears.
"As you can imagine, this is a very devastating time for the family, for Hannah's loved ones and for the family as a whole," she said.
"The family have been assisting the police, however I cannot comment on the status of the matter.
"I would ask that everyone is mindful of the family, at this period of time … that you give them time to mourn the loss of Hannah."
The case is expected to return to court again in July.
