NSW Health confirmed the hospital status of the victims this morning as the premier announced a vigil would be held at Bondi Beach at 5pm tomorrow evening.
A man and a woman are at St Vincent's Hospital, another man and woman are at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and one female patient is at the Royal North Shore Hospital, who has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit.
NSW Premier Chris Minns is encouraging people to bring a candle to the vigil to commemorate those who have lost their lives and to "lean on one another during what has been a terrible week for the city".
He described the people who were killed as being quite diverse, with different experiences but familiar to the community.
"One thing that they all had in common was they seemed like hopeful, optimistic people that were focused on tomorrow and to lose them to lose that sense of potential adds to the stress and grief that these families have."
He said there had been thousands of additions to the condolence book.
"I think if we can stand together during the difficult periods, we can send a message that there are far more good people in this city than there are bad actors and there is evil," Minns said.
"Those that have lost loved ones have said unanimously that they can feel the community support behind them and that they know that they're not alone."
He said the families of victims were drawing solace from the millions who were in their corner during the difficult period.
"So I'm very confident tomorrow night will be an opportunity to come together as a community to stand by those that have lost loved ones and remember those that have been killed."
He said they had counsellors and support services in place for emergency services, and often young people, "who put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe".
"You can understand that the trauma associated with that will bring up lots of emotions," he said.
"My hope is that mixed in with that emotion is pride in the job that they've done on behalf of the people of NSW because when they were asked to stand up they did exactly that."
A coronial inquiry is underway, which will have a focus on mental health funding.
"The New South Wales Government spends about $2.7 billion a year on mental health funding each year," Minns said.
"And to put that into perspective, that's about half as much as we spend on the New South Wales Police Force."
Minns was hopeful the inquiry would help to direct any government policy changes.
