Catiuscia Machado's body was discovered in the bathtub of her Chiswick apartment by police on Saturday night.
Machado's boyfriend Diogo De Oliveira, 40, was arrested and charged with domestic violence-related murder.
Police allege the couple fought on Friday night while Machado was running a bath.
De Oliveira allegedly pushed her and she hit her head and fell into the bathtub.
9News understands police were called by a friend of De Oliveira on Saturday night after receiving a phone call from the accused.
It is also understood that police arrived to find Machado's body in the bathtub along with packets of frozen food.
Friends claim Machado had wanted to leave De Oliveira.
Machado had been living and working as a teacher in Australia for less than a year after moving from Brazil.
De Oliveira faced court today where he was refused bail to appear again in late January.
