Excavator hiding 448 kilograms of MDMA leads to five arrests in Sydney and London - Sydney Morning Herald

Five men have been arrested across western Sydney and London after a shipment of almost 450 kilograms of MDMA concealed in an excavator was imported into Australia.

Earlier this year, the drug shipment, which has an estimated street value of $79 million, was detected by Australian officials in Brisbane and national and UK authorities began to investigate.

The excavator was concealing 448 kilograms of MDMA, which has an estimated street value of $79 million.

Search warrants were executed on Wednesday in Blacktown, Mortlake, Homebush and Greystanes, which resulted in two men being arrested and $1.2 million dollars in cash being seized.

Earlier this year, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission found that increased drug prices during the coronavirus pandemic did not cut demand for some drugs, even as prices reportedly reached $450 for a gram of cocaine, $250 for a gram of ice and $170 for a gram of MDMA in its powdered form.
