Kiesha Weippeart murder: Man who stuffed six-year-old girl’s body in suitcase after murder in Mount Druitt to be released on parole - 7NEWS

A man who helped conceal the murder of a six-year-old girl by stuffing her body into a suitcase, before burning and burying her in Sydney’s west more than a decade ago, has been granted parole.

Robert Smith pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence and being an accessory after the fact of the murder of Kiesha Weippeart in July 2010.

Smith’s partner and the six-year-old’s mother, Kristi Abrahams, pleaded guilty to her murder in 2013.

Abrahams killed Kiesha on July 13, 2010, in Mount Druitt because she refused to put her pyjamas on.

After the murder, Smith put Kiesha’s body into a suitcase and left her there for days.

On July 18, five days after her death, the pair took the suitcase with Kiesha’s body inside to a burial site in Shalvey.

There, Smith dug a shallow grave and poured petrol over Kiesha’s body and burnt it. He burnt the suitcase a short distance away.

Abrahams reported her daughter missing weeks later on August 1, 2010.

Following the murder, Abrahams and Smith made emotional public appeals for information.

At the time, they told police Kiesha had been put to bed, and they’d discovered her missing the next morning.

Months later, in April 2011, the pair were arrested over Kiesha’s murder.

Smith, who was sentenced to 16 years behind bars, with a non-parole period of 12 years, was granted parole on Tuesday.

He has four more years of his sentence to serve.

Smith will be subject to strict supervision conditions once he is released from prison, including being banned from the Blacktown and Penrith Local Government Areas.

State Parole Authority Chair Judge Geoffrey Bellew SC said expert reports “unequivocally” supported Smith’s release.

“The potential danger of keeping the offender in custody and releasing him at the expiry of his sentence in four years’ time with no plan, no parole supervision and no opportunity to engage with support services, will be self-evident,” Judge Bellew said.

Smith will be released from custody by April 28.

Abrahams is not eligible for parole until April 2027.
