VicEmergency has updated its emergency warning for Shepparton and Mooroopna with both towns listed as “Too late to leave”.
While the evacuation warning remains current, officials say it is too late to leave with floodwaters expected to set in tonight.
The Midland Highway, known as the Mooroopna Causeway between Mooroopna and Shepparton will be closed from 7pm tonight.

The Midland Hwy also known as the Mooroopna Causeway between Mooroopna and Shepparton will be CLOSED from 7pm tonight October 15.
It is now too late to leave for people in those properties identified in more detaail below. If you have not evacuated, you should shelter in the highest location possible.
From the river along Daldy Rd east to the Barmah-Shepparton Rd then south to the transmission lines crossing the highway then west and south to Wanganui Rd; across to Mercury Ct then south on the Numurkah Rd to Halpin Cres; then west up to Furze Ave, along Newton Cres, up to Hicken Cres to Fehey St down to Balaclava Rd across to Gowrie St, up to Alambie St then down to The Blvd; follow The Blvd down to Quinan Pde to the Midland Hwy. down Welsford St to the railway line. North up the railway line to Swallow St then down to Haves St then down Hare St, Sanderson St, Wilmot Rd, Bradford Rd, Palmer Rd to Broken River Drive. Across to the GV Hwy across to forest Rd, down to Settlers Dr and across to the Goulburn River.
There is also an area bounded by Kittles Rd, the river, Wanganui Rd and west of Kingfisher Dve, Pelican Crt and Curlew Pl that should remain unaffected however they will be isolated by waters to the east and north.
There are properties within these areas that may not be directly impacted with street flooding only.

Residents in Maribyrnong have begun the arduous task of cleaning out their homes following yesterday’s floods.
Piles of damaged household goods, furniture and clothes pile up on the verges along Oakland Street. The roads and footpaths are covered in a carpet of mud and residents are using brooms and rakes to sweep it away from their driveways and gardens.

Mother-of-five Lam Luong was putting her family’s soiled personal belongings in plastic bags as her father-in-law carted cardboard boxes and waste in a wheelbarrow.
Neighbours came to lend a hand emptying the house, which had been completely inundated.
“Cheap stuff, expensive stuff, it’s all the same,” Luong said. “It’s all the same colour. I hate brown from now on.”

Strawberry Fields, described as “four days of live music, large-scale art, workshops and wild river swimming” is held annually on the Murray River in Tocumwal, a town on the Victoria-NSW border.
The bush bash was scheduled for October 28 to 30 –but after watching flood levels on the Murray River rise well into September, organisers made the call to cancel the event at the “11th hour”. It was a month out from the festival, and right before construction needed to start.

Residents in low-lying parts of Shepparton were told to evacuate on Saturday afternoon, with the Goulburn River tipped to exceed major flood levels overnight.
As many as 4000 properties in Shepparton and Mooroopna could be affected by the flooding, which is expected to rival the devastating flood of 1974.

The State Emergency Service issued its recommendation to evacuate immediately on Saturday afternoon, warning residents that if they stayed, it could be too late to leave, and emergency services might not be able to help them.
The Greater Shepparton City Council has set up an evacuation centre at the showgrounds, and by Saturday afternoon people and their pets were beginning to arrive at the spartan hall.
A few people pitched tents just outside the evacuation centre.
Among the arrivals was Kathy Simpson, with her young daughters Sophie, 8, and Hayley, 6, along with their labrador Toby.
Simpson, who lives in Mooroopna, said she came to the centre after being advised to evacuate her house, which is in the path of the expected flood.
“The street usually just gets flooded in the park area, on both sides when it’s really heavy rain, but that’s about as far as it goes, so I don’t know if our place will flood,” she said.
“This is my first flood.”
Simpson came to the evacuation centre because she had nowhere else to go.
“We were told to evacuate, so we were like, where can we go because we’ve got no other friends that are in a safe place.”
Metro Trains has warned travellers to allow for extra time on lines impacted by flooding including the Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown lines.
Replacement buses are also facing delays due to being re-routed due to road closures.
