Here's what you need to know this morning.
Regional areas back under lockdown
The Gunnedah Local Government Authority (LGA) went into lockdown from midnight today until October 11, with stay-at-home orders applying to anyone who has been in the LGA since September 27.
On the NSW Mid North Coast, lockdown orders have been imposed in Taree, Forster and Tuncurry until October 11, including anyone who has visited the areas since September 27.
Lismore LGA has also been locked down for the same period due to an increased COVID-19 public health risk.
Stay-at-home orders have been extended for Muswellbrook, after the town recorded an additional case on Monday, and Muswellbrook McDonald's was listed as an exposure site.
However, stay-at-home orders for Cowra LGA were lifted as scheduled today at 12:01am and Port Macquarie LGA will exit lockdown at 11:59pm.
Swimmer's body found
The body of a man who went missing while swimming off a nude beach in Sydney Harbour yesterday has been recovered.
Yesterday afternoon the man, who has yet to be formally identified, went missing while swimming at Obelisk Beach — a popular nude beach in Mosman.
A group of people were swimming out to a yacht anchored off the beach when the man disappeared underwater.
Police divers attended and conducted an underwater search, recovering the body of a 38-year-old man at around 8.20pm.
NSW leadership vote
Liberal MPs will meet at NSW Parliament today and hold a ballot to pick a new leader.Treasurer Dominic Perrottet is expected to beat Planning Minister Rob Stokes easily, but as the ABC's analysis reveals, there are some possible variables.
The fact there will be a ballot held essentially means not all moderates are happy to back Mr Perrottet, who has conservative views — he voted against decriminalising abortion in 2019, for example.
Mr Stokes yesterday said his supporters in the party were telling him to run.
If the result is close, that would mean Mr Perrottet has only shaky support from within his own ranks.
Nationals search for new leader
Nationals MP Melinda Pavey has announced she will put up her hand for leadership of the party, following John Barilaro's resignation on Monday.
Mr Barilaro announced yesterday he would quit as NSW Deputy Premier and leader of the Nationals, and will call a party room meeting on Wednesday for a leadership ballot.
Currently the Minister for Water, Property and Housing, Ms Pavey said Mr Barilaro had inspired her to continue his work.
"John’s leadership through the drought, bushfires and COVID will not be forgotten," she said.
"A strong National party is integral to a strong coalition and I am encouraged by the support my colleagues have shown me."
Funding shortage for specialist doctors
A state parliamentary inquiry is set to be told a lack of funding is a key reason why there are fewer specialists practising in rural and regional NSW.
Nine witnesses are due to give evidence before an Upper House committee that is holding its tenth hearing into challenges accessing medical services outside metropolitan Sydney.
Ruth Arnold from the NSW Medical Staff Executive Council said it was a myth that specialists do not want to work in the bush.
"In many cases there's no funding for a position and to establish a new specialist position can take years of business cases and lobbying," Dr Arnold said.
"So this system really needs to change because there's no question that there's a major per capita understaffing of specialists in rural and regional areas."
