Queensland has recorded one new community case of COVID-19 in a woman in her 50s who was infectious in the community for 10 days.
Key points:
- Genome sequencing is underway to determind how the woman acquired the virus
- A number of new exposure sites have been listed, with residents on Brisbane's northside urged to get tested
- Dr Young says she's reassured with testing numbers that a lockdown isn't necessary
Acting Premier Steven Miles said the woman, who lives in Fitzgibbon on Brisbane's northside and works at a massage business, was not linked to any known clusters and authorities were investigating where she contracted the virus.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said anyone with symptoms should be tested, but especially those in the Fitzgibbon area, and from Redcliffe down through Chermside to Cannon Hill.
"At this stage, there are no close links that we've been able to identify, she hasn't been to any known exposure sites," Dr Young said.
"All of the exposure sites that she's been at while infectious are up on our website, and we will continue to work with her to make sure that we've picked all of those up."
Dr Young said urgent tracing was underway to determine all the woman's contacts.
Queensland Health released a list of new COVID-19 exposure sites overnight at location on the northside and Cannon Hill, in the city's south-east.
The woman has been deemed infectious since September 25 but had mild symptoms.
"That's why I'm always out there saying please come forward as soon as you develop any symptoms," Dr Young said.
She said the woman was fully vaccinated and all her household contacts have tested negative.
"I am reasonably reassured by all that [and] it would be good to see that enhanced testing response that we see every single time from Queenslanders," she said.
"So far we haven't found any positives related to her."
When asked about a lockdown, Dr Young said she was reassured there had been over 100,000 tests conducted in Queensland recently.
"If we hadn't had all of that increased testing, I would be more cautious," she said.
"The fact that she's double vaccinated, the fact her household is negative … that's reassuring."
Two more overseas-acquired cases were detected in hotel quarantine.
The state now has 26 active cases.
In response to mask compliance at last night's NRL grand final match in Brisbane, Dr Young said she was told there were lots of people wearing masks while walking around, and took them off when they were seated and eating and drinking.
Mr Miles agreed and added that "by and large" when fans were moving around they were wearing their masks.
"I think compliance was very, very good," he said.
No moves on construction industry vaccine mandates
Dr Young said vaccine mandates were being introduced in hospitals, disability care and the police service.
Workers in the corrective services were being strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, but no discussions have been held with the construction industry yet to mandate vaccines.
"My preference, of course, is that every single person who's 12 years of age or older gets vaccinated as quickly as they can. We've got plenty of vaccine," she said.
Dr Young said the vaccination rates in aged care facilities had not reached 100 per cent yet, and restrictions on visitors were still in place.
She said she would like people to "limit their movement into northern New South Wales," following more cases found in that region.
"As we can see every day, New South Wales moves parts of that northern border zone in and out of lockdown, and it is difficult for people to manage that and understand it," she said.
"So I think the best advice is just at the moment, while New South Wales gets the cases under control, and each day we're seeing fewer cases in New South Wales which is an excellent thing, limit your movement in and out of northern New South Wales."
