NSW records 406 COVID-19 cases and six deaths as government offers more Dine and Discover vouchers - ABC News

The NSW government will give people another $50 to spend on entertainment and dining to continue the state's economic recovery from a prolonged COVID-19 lockdown.

NSW recorded 406 new COVID-19 infections and six deaths in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday.

Following further investigation, nine previously reported cases have been excluded.

Two of the people who died were in their 60s, two were in their 80s, and two were in their 90s.

Three people were not vaccinated and two people had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The only person who had received two doses was a man in his 90s who died at the Hawkesbury Living Aged Care Facility in Richmond, where he acquired his infection.

There are now seven deaths linked to an outbreak at this facility.

NSW Health says 91.1 per cent of people over the age of 16 have now had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 76.5 per cent are double-dosed.

A total of 71 per cent of children aged between 12-15 have had one dose and 23.3 per cent have had two.

There are currently 711 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 143 people in intensive care and 75 people who require ventilation.

There were over 85,000 COVID-19 tests undertaken yesterday.

Premier Dominic Perrottet says the state is expected to hit the 80 per cent double-dosed target over the weekend.

That is due to trigger more restrictions being eased on Monday.

"We will have this discussion with our team on Thursday and we will make a decision to be announced on Friday," he said.

As part of his second economic recovery package, this morning the Premier announced the popular "Dine & Discover" vouchers would make a return.

Another two $25 vouchers will be issued to all NSW residents over the age of 18 — one for dining and one to use in 'discover' venues which include cinemas, theatres, museums and many recreational activities.

The initial program was used by 4.8 million people and injected $430 million into businesses.

The second instalment will cost the government $250 million and will be launched in December through the Service NSW app.

"These vouchers drive activity, they are not just popular with people, they are popular with businesses because people go out and spend more than $25, on average they spend an extra $15," Mr Perrottet said.

The NSW government is also putting $66 million into an alfresco dining package to encourage businesses to take advantage of the outdoors, which offers a reduced risk of COVID transmission.

"We are asking families to ditch the microwave, forget the dishwasher and put a pause on Netflix," Treasurer Matt Kean said.

Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said 5,000 hospitality businesses will be given a $5,000 grant to set up curb-side dining, pub-style courtyards or other outdoor dining ventures.

These grants will be offered on a first come first served basis.
