South Australia records no new coronavirus cases despite testing surge linked to New South Wales arrivals - ABC News

South Australia has recorded no new cases of coronavirus, despite an influx of arrivals from New South Wales prior to border restrictions coming into place on Monday.

Three cases reported on Sunday are still active, but all are staying in medi-hotels.

Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier described the situation as "very good news" ahead of Christmas.

"We've got no new cases in South Australia — no cases from the Parafield cluster and of course no cases in our state from New South Wales," she said.

More than 4,000 tests were performed in South Australia on Monday, which Professor Spurrier said was a "large increase" on previous days.

"Some of that will, of course, be people who have travelled from New South Wales, and either are in quarantine, or if they're not in quarantine, are still required to do testing on day one, day five and day 12," she said.

"We've been very happy to almost say goodbye to the Parafield cluster officially, but every South Australian needs to be thinking about, if you get a sore throat, if you feel a little bit unwell, you need to get tested."

Professor Spurrier said all testing stations would remain open over the festive period.

She urged people to consider "COVID safety" during Christmas, and to avoid going to gatherings if they are feeling unwell.

"The last thing you want to be passing on as a Christmas gift to your family is COVID," she said.

"So do stay at home and let the family know, and I'm sure there will be plenty of leftovers for you the next day."

Professor Spurrier said a "small number of people" who had been incorrectly turned back into regional NSW on Synday because of a "miscommunication" by authorities had been readmitted into SA.

But she said similar exemptions were not able to apply to anyone who had returned to Sydney.

"If we deem to somebody coming into our state as coming from a high-risk area, then unfortunately they wouldn't be able to enter," she said.

She said SA Health was looking forward to "formally closing" the Parafield cluster tomorrow, provided there are no new cases linked to it.

More to come.
