Businesses prepare for new contact tracing requirements as WA's border eases

Western Australians are being urged to be patient and prepare for long queues, with compulsory check-in at a range of venues to come into force from Saturday to enable rapid contact tracing in the event of a coronavirus outbreak.

Pubs, nightclubs, gyms, restaurants and cafes, hairdressers, cinemas, hotels and churches are among the host of venues legally required to keep a contact register of all staff and their patrons as WA's interstate border continues to ease.

Upon arrival at the venues, people can either download the free "SafeWA" app on their phone and scan the business's QR code, which will be displayed at venues, or manually sign in using a paper system.

Both systems will record the date, arrival time and telephone numbers of those attending.

Records do not have to be kept for people collecting takeaway, or for children under the age of 16.
