An Australian man fighting Hamas militants with the Israeli Defence Forces has been killed in Gaza.
Reserves Captain Lior Sivan, 32, was serving as a tank commander when he died on December 19.
Israeli newspaper Haarezt reported Sivan had a wife, who was expecting their second child, and a son.
Sivan, from Beit Shemesh, was an officer in the Harel Brigade's 363 Batalion, according to the IDF.
He was called up to serve after the Hamas attack on October 7, where 1200 were killed and hundreds taken hostage.
A DFAT spokesperson told 9News the department was "aware of reports that an Australian citizen has been killed in Gaza and is urgently seeking further confirmation".
"We send our condolences to his family during this difficult time and stand ready to provide consular assistance," the spokesperson said.
