The new technology will allow motorists to have a digital version of their driver licence on their phones in either the Service Victoria app or the soon-to-be-launched my VicRoads app.
The digital licences will be able to be updated immediately in line with any changes to the licence conditions or changes of address.
A six-month trial of the digital licences will begin in Ballarat from July.
