'I've done nothing wrong': Victorian opposition leader referred to corruption commission ahead of election - 9News

Victorian Opposition Leader Matthew Guy maintains he has done "nothing wrong" after the electoral commission referred its investigation into him and his former chief of staff, Mitch Catlin, to the state's anti-corruption watchdog.

Guy said he has been "more than happy to cooperate" and told reporters on Thursday there "are no allegations of wrongdoing".

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) earlier passed on its probe to the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) after it "exhausted attempts to fully investigate" what may have been a breach of funding and disclosure laws.

"I provided all the information I had weeks and weeks and weeks ago and if other people associated with that haven't, that's not a question for me," Guy said.

Meanwhile, Premier Daniel Andrews was tight-lipped when asked about the VEC referring Guy and Catlin to IBAC.

"That's a matter for Mr Guy and IBAC."

"We became aware of suggestions that Mr Catlin was alleged to have tried to circumvent donation disclosure laws," Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said.

"It's my responsibility to ensure compliance with all electoral laws and ensure all participants are held to the same standard."

Guy said he had co-operated when he was interviewed by the VEC.

However, Gately said today the VEC had not received full co-operation from those connected to its investigation, "despite public statements to the contrary".

"While the VEC is not in a position to allege wrongdoing based on the allegations it has sought to investigate, the possibility of offences against the Act—including under section 218B—have also not been able to be discounted," the statement reads.

The VEC has said it will not provide further comment on the case.

This comes ahead of the Victoria state election next Saturday, when voters will determine if Premier Daniel Andrews will get a third term in office or whether the Coalition will take the reigns.
