Woman's body found in search for people missing in flood-hit Eugowra - 9News

The body of a woman has been found in the search for two people missing in floodwaters in Central West New South Wales.

Police are yet to formally identify the body but believe it belongs to missing 60-year-old Dianne Smith, who last spoke to a family member on the phone from her car in Eugowra on Monday morning.

The 60-year-old worked at the local grocery store and has been described by a friend as "a much-loved member of the community" who "knew almost everyone" in the flood-ravaged town.

Eugowra, a small community of 700 people, has been inundated by floodwater over the last few days as the Lachlan River rose.

Every single home and business in the town was flooded.

Helicopters and boats have been used to evacuate the town, where people were forced to climb onto their roofs as floodwaters rose.

Water has started to recede in Eugowra, but the Wyangala Dam is still spilling thousands of gigalitres into the Lachlan River, with Forbes currently at the centre of the disaster.

The river there is expected to peak at 10.8 metres, with waters currently at 10.7 metres and still rising.

The clean-up started today in Eugowra.

Residents told 9News they were shocked by how quickly the "wall of water" came through, with many having only minutes to climb to safety, some onto their rooftops.
