Counter terror cops charge seven men over alleged cocaine, gun syndicate - NEWS.com.au

Counter terror police have cracked an alleged criminal syndicate involved in supplying cocaine and illegal firearms across Sydney.

Officers stormed 11 properties across the city on Tuesday and seized 10kg of cocaine and $2 million cash, about $1.5 million of it allegedly concealed inside a wall at a Bass Hill home.

Seven men were arrested, with six due to front court on Tuesday.

NSW Police Force Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Commander Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton said the men were “loosely connected”.

Police will allege the men have links to another person with extremist ideologies, but there is no evidence they had extreme views and no terrorism charges have been laid against the men.

“Broadly there’s always the risk. That’s why we need to take as many of these guns out of circulation and put people before the courts who we will allege have been involved in supplying them,” Assistant Commissioner Walton said.

Two men were arrested in Bass Hill just before noon on Tuesday, where investigators seized 200g of cocaine, $24,400 cash and mobile phones.

Nabil Mouslmani, 36, was charged with unlawfully selling firearms three times or more within 12 months, drug and prohibited weapon supply.

Hassan Taybah, 30, was charged with drug supply, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, drug possession and participating in criminal activity.

Both men were refused bail and will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.

Police then searched 10 homes across Sydney, and one in the Southern Tablelands, where they found $2 million cash, more than 10kg of cocaine, several weapons, vehicles, jet skis, cannabis, mobile phones, and other electronic devices.

Another five men – aged 31, 35, 36, 39 and 46 – were arrested.

Wasim Rifai, 36, faces several charges relating to possessing and supplying firearms.

Wisam Serhan, 39, faces drug charges and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Both men were also refused bail and will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.

Mohamad Khechaich, 35, was charged with drug supply and the 46-year-old Romeo Elkhair was charged with supplying a prohibited firearm to person unauthorised to possess it.

They were refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court today.

A 31-year-old Blakehurst man was also charged with four counts of supply a prohibited drug.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court in January.

Australian Federal Police Counter Terrorism and Special Investigations Assistant Commissioner Scott Lee said police seek to disrupt at the “earliest possible moment”.

Since the beginning of the investigation detectives have seized six firearms, including military-style weapons, a smoke grenade, in addition to Tuesday’s haul.

Last year counter terror police and other agencies launched an investigation into the unlawful access to firearms, which lead police uncover this alleged criminal network.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
