My wife’s license was due to expire April 29, 2020.
I suggested she apply for a “Real ID” with the California DMV to allow traveling.
Chico DMV was said to be closed due to the virus.
On March 19, 2020 she called DMV, to make an appointment, at the number listed 1-(800) 777-0133 and was on hold for one hour and 45 minutes. Finally, David answered. He gave her his extension number 444. He searched for the closest DMV office that was open and the earliest time an appointment could be made and confirmed her appointment for May 27, 2020 in Rocklin at 3:00 p.m.
On April 7, 2020, she received via mail a temporary driver license extension until August 27, 2020.
We gathered the required documents including a trip to the safe deposit box.
She studied the California Driver Handbook for three hours.
On May 26, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. she received a call from the State of California Division of Motor Vehicles confirming her appointment on May 29 in Rocklin at 3:00 p.m.
She then went on line to REALID.dmv.ca.gov and completed the application process and submitted it and received a confirmation number.
On May 27, 2020, she and I drove to Rocklin only to find the facility CLOSED. An employee did come to the door and told us they were closed and that she should go home and call the 800 number.
