Queensland to reopen its borders to all states and territories except Victoria

Queensland's borders will reopen in July but the state will remain closed to Victorians, who will have to self-quarantine for a fortnight at their own expense if they enter the state, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said anyone who had travelled from Victoria, including Queensland residents, would be prevented from entering the state unless they quarantined at a hotel at their own expense.
“We cannot risk removing our border restrictions for those people coming from areas in Victoria right now,” she said.

“The government will open the borders to other states from Friday, July 10, provided travellers complete a border declaration stating they have not been to local government areas in Victoria in the previous 14 days.”
A spike of virus cases in Victoria had many Queenslanders spooked about pulling down border blockades and potentially exposing the state to a second wave.
Victoria has detected 139 new cases in the past two days, including a further 64 on Tuesday. Meanwhile Queensland has recorded nine cases since the start of June.
The last time the state restricted its borders was in 1918, during the Spanish flu pandemic.

Where are active coronavirus cases in Melbourne?
This map shows the number of active coronavirus cases by local government area in Melbourne.
The top map shows active case numbers as they currently stand, while the one underneath shows what Melbourne's case distribution looked like last Monday. As you can see, the city's inner north and west are a much more unpleasant shade of burgundy and black compared with last week.
(Excuse the colour legend - it's a bit jumbled given I'm blogging at the same time!)
This map zooms into Greater Melbourne and does not show rural/regional Victoria, but as of today there are four active cases in Mitchell, and one each in Greater Bendigo, Greater Geelong, Latrobe and Swan Hill.
This graph shows how active case numbers increased in Hume, in Melbourne's north, during June. It's important to note, however, that some of this increase may be from the testing blitz carried out in this municipality.
Two new coronavirus cases confirmed in Western Australia
The WA Department of Health has reported two new cases of COVID-19 overnight.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her 60s both travelled to Perth this week from the UK and Pakistan respectively.
They are both in hotel quarantine.
The State total is now 611.
There were 64 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Victoria today (none of them travellers in hotel quarantine) and five new cases in New South Wales.
A total of 64 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Victoria
Victoria's health department has released the latest figures for coronavirus cases in Victoria.
- There are 64 new cases (as was confirmed by The Age earlier), but the net increase is 60 due to four cases being removed.
- Of these, 13 new cases are linked to known outbreaks, 20 have been identified through routine testing (at a drive-through location, pop-up testing site or testing by a doctor) and 31 cases are under investigation (this means all the health department knows is that someone tested positive and has not fleshed out details on how the result was obtained)
- There are no new deaths.
- A total of 281 cases are from community transmission (that is, the person was infected locally and the source of the infection is unknown). That is 10 more than yesterday's running total.
- There are currently 321 active cases in Victoria.
- Nine people have been hospitalised because of coronavirus, including one patient in intensive care.
I will put in a post detailing all the known outbreaks shortly.
Curiously, this is, as far as I know, the first time the detailed data has been sent out in Victoria before a daily coronavirus update press conference.

No new coronavirus cases confirmed in Queensland

Queensland has recorded another day without a new COVID-19 case, as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk prepares to reveal a decision on stage three of restriction easing. (You can watch her press conference, which has just got started, in the post below).
Just two of the state’s 1067 cases remain active, with only one in hospital, updated Queensland Health data shows.
Authorities carried out a total of 4512 tests statewide on Monday, with almost 365,000 now conducted since the pandemic began.

Childcare centre in Melbourne's north becomes the fourth to close this week

A fourth childcare centre in Melbourne has closed due to a positive coronavirus case.
It has been confirmed that a staff member at Maples Early Learning Centre in Mernda, north of the city, has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a letter to families on Sunday, the childcare centre said Maples would be closed from Monday to Wednesday, and would re-open Thursday in line with state Health Department guidelines.
As reported earlier in the day, Gowrie Clare Court Early Learning Centre has also closed after a child tested positive.
Yesterday, The Age reported that Guardian Childcare and Education centres in Abbotsford and Pascoe Vale also closed after positive cases.
More than a dozen Melbourne schools have also closed for deep cleaning following positive coronavirus tests. You can see the full list in the 11.42am post, which automatically updates as any new locations are confirmed.
Where to get tested for coronavirus in Victoria or New South Wales
The maps below show the location of coronavirus testing sites in Victoria and New South Wales.
Today, Victoria's Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said on social media that new testing sites had opened at the following locations:
- Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), 30 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park.
- Roxburgh Park Youth and Recreation Centre - 75 Lakeside Drive, Roxburgh Park.
- Winchelsea: 17 Willis Street, Winchelsea (by appointment)
- Nathalia: 36-44 McDonell Street, Nathalia (by appointment)
- Mildura Central: Deakin Avenue, Mildura, Target rear carpark
In addition, she said Chadstone’s coronavirus drive through testing centre had moved to Golfers Drive, off Waverley Road.
The Victorian map should update automatically whenever a new testing site is opened, but there may be a slight delay before new locations appear.
What is it like to contract COVID-19?
In April, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald's Europe correspondent Bevan Shields tested positive for COVID-19 in London and wrote a first-person account of his experience with the illness.

Also in April, science reporter Liam Mannix interviewed mathematician Tony Guttmann, who appeared to have caught the virus from a visiting academic.
