Two new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed between 8pm on June 20 and 8pm on June 21, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3151.

One of today’s new cases is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine.

The second is a man in his 30s from South Western Sydney.

NSW Health is undertaking further investigations to determine the source and timing of the infection.

He has not travelled or attended any mass gatherings recently. He is well and is isolating at home.

NSW Health has also “strongly discouraged” travel to and from areas of Victoria with COVID-19 outbreaks until control of community transmission has been confirmed.

The Victorian Government has identified the local government areas of Hume, Casey and Brimbank, Moreland, Cardinia and Darebin as the focus of current outbreaks of concern.

Victoria is bracing for a spike in coronavirus cases today meaning a second wave of COVID-19 hitting Australia is a “distinct possibility”.

Victoria confirmed another 19 cases yesterday making a total of 160 new cases in the past week, up from 35 the previous week. The only other cases reported on Sunday were five in NSW and one in Western Australia, all returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

There are now 7461 virus cases confirmed across Australia since the initial outbreak. The death toll remains at 102.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said NSW had the highest rate of testing.

“That’s allowed us to keep the community spread under control,” she said.

“But it also comes down to doing the right thing. You can’t police what eight million citizens do every day. We’re relying on the good will of our citizens, coupled with the good advice from our experts and the good action from government and business.”

She said just a couple of people not respecting the rules could lead to spikes and things going backwards.

“And we don’t want to see that in New South Wales,” she said.

“We’ve done so well so far. We’ve come so far in the last few months.

Let’s keep going by getting tested, by coming forward and getting tested. We’ve had record testing. I mean, last week, we had days of 13,000, 14,000 people getting tested of a weekday. The fact that we got nearly 9000 people tested on a weekend is outstanding. Please keep that up. It’s keeping all of us safe. It’s allowing us to continue to ease restrictions, and it’s allowing us to stay on top of the pandemic at this point in time.”
