'Time for renewal': Tearful Palaszczuk resigns after almost nine years as Queensland premier — as it happened - ABC News

It was a question put to Griffith University's Paul Williams.

The political scientist says recent polls have shown that while the Labor vote in Queensland is stabilising, "the leadership approval ratings of Annastacia Palaszczuk personally are still in decline".

"Which would suggest to party elders that the problem is with the leader and not with the party, and that the leader had to go.

"So I suspect in recent times, possibly even over the last week, that she has received a tap on the shoulder from factional [leaders], both inside the party and outside the party, and they've tapped her on the shoulder to say that your leadership is unsustainable, Labor can't win under your leadership, it's time to move on."
