'Absolutely overwhelming' donations for flood-affected Queensland families ahead of Christmas Day - 9News

Families on Cairns' northern beaches are dealing with the devastation and heartbreak caused by flooding following Cylcone Jasper.

But you don't have to go far to find heartwarming examples of the holiday spirit coming to life across the Far North Queensland region.

"It's been absolutely overwhelming we have had trolley loads on trolley loads, we filled an entire back storeroom at the shop," gift drive organiser Bronte Wynn said.

Many of these families are facing an incredibly tough and expensive few months ahead but kind gestures like these will mean they still have something to celebrate Christmas Day.

But Santa will still pay the Holloways Beach family a visit.

"It's amazing," Norkett told 9News of the community's genorosity.

"I think all the kids in Machans Holloways even Yorkeys are going to love this."

The Queensland Government boosted emergency relief funding by $105,000 on Saturday.

While support for the struggling Far North is stretching across the state, with almost $250,000 has been raised through the flood appeal.
