Overall, Australia's performance on last year's PISA test – which measured 13,437 15-year-old students from 743 Australian schools among almost 700,000 students from 81 countries – was flat compared to the last test in 2018.
Asian countries dominated the results, with Singapore leading every category and Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese Taipei high in the top 10.
Estonia was the strongest performer in Europe while Canada was the only English-speaking country to outperform Australia across all three categories.
