The exclusion zone includes the police station, and Surat Development Road, Day Street, Benn Street, Fry Street and Milne Street.
Anyone within this zone has been asked to stay inside.
Residents told the ABC they heard multiple gun shots.
Police said crews from nearby stations have responded.
The town made headlines last month after a deadly shooting at a nearby property in which two police officers and a local man were killed.
The young officers were ambushed by three shooters — Nathaniel, Gareth and Stacey Train — at a Wieambilla property on December 12.
Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold were killed, and their two fellow officers were injured.
The Trains' neighbour Alan Dare was also shot and killed.
The three assailants were shot dead in a six-hour siege with police.
