Josh Bruce has broken the goal-drought for the Bulldogs with a handy finish.
According to Channel 7, that goal broke a 41-minute goal-less run.
This has been a bad night for a team who ha designs on winning the premiership.
Demons lead 86-51 with 11 mins to go.
Tom McDonald has kicked the first goal of the last term and extended the lead to 41 points.
The Demons are running all over the Bulldogs now with Max Gawn playing setup man on that goal with a high kick into McDonald who kicked his third goal.
Demons up 86-45 with 15 mins to go.
The Bulldogs threatened early in that term but the Demons kicked clear late in the quarter with two decisive goals from Sam Weideman taking them to a commanding 36-point lead heading into the last.
It all comes down to defensive pressure from Melbourne and the Bulldogs’ inability to find ways to their forwards without stumbling into a Demons jumper or an intercept mark.
At the other end, Fritsch and Weidemann have proven far too much trouble while Kossie Pickett is still threatening as well.
The Bulldogs will need a miracle to come back in the last term. I’ll enjoy watching them try but the Demons should be comfortably home.
Weideman has come up with another big mark after a great centre clearance from several Demons who sent the ball forward to their target man and he pulled in the mark before kicking the goal.
The Bulldogs look in trouble once again, they may not have a response to this.
Demons up 80-44 with three mins left in Q3.
The game has floated between the two half-forward line for the past few minutes but Melbourne finally made a break and setup Sam Weideman who led and pulled in a powerful mark.
The big forward went back and kicked the goal. He has had his issues with set-shots in recent times but he kicked this one and was mobbed by his teammates.
Demons lead 73-44 with four mins left in Q3.
We have had a dour start to the third term but Bayley Fritsch has again come up with the free-kick and snapped a goal from the boundary.
Dogs defender Ayce Cordy didn’t like the decision but Fritsch was all smiles as he goaled.
Demons lead 66-42 with 12 mins left in Q3.
The standard of football has been extraordinarily high in the empty stadium eerily devoid of atmosphere.
Both teams have played like top spot is up for grabs with Melbourne’s first quarter score their highest of the season and the first time the Western Bulldogs have been outscored in the opening quarter in 2021.
The Demons have been cutting off the Bulldogs ball movement to great effect but the question remains whether they can keep that defensive transition at such a high level late in the game.
The two Bulldogs goals late in the half which cut the margin to 19 points could prove crucial with this contest alive.

Footscray battlers meet their match
Melbourne 21.18 (144)
Footscray 9.11 (65)
It is said of elections that they are lost by one side, rather than won by the other. Perhaps it is true of finals as well.
There was more than a hint of a game lost rather than a game won in Melbourne’s 79-point walloping of Footscray. As well as Melbourne played, Footscray gave every indication of being a spent force before it hit the ground.
That is not to denigrate the spirit that the Bulldogs brought to this game – especially in clawing their way back into the contest in the second quarter.
Nor is it to deny the silky skills of Garry Lyon, and his 10 goals, the aerial acrobatics and courage of David Schwarz, the laser-like delivery of Stephen Tingay and the incisive vision of Glenn Lovett.
Melbourne has dominated this half and forced the Bulldogs to play the game on their terms but they will be a little disappointed that a lead which was five goals is only 19 points heading into the main break.
Tim English kicked his second goal just before the half-time siren to cut that lead.
But the Demons can take pride in the way they moved the ball and, more importantly, the way they defended in that half against a Bulldogs team who are known for fast and attractive ball-movement.
The Bulldogs have had 39 turnovers in that first half while 32 from the Demons is partially why this lead isn’t bigger.
The Bulldogs need to be much better in the second half if they want any chance to win this.
Caleb Daniel doesn’t push forward too often but the Bulldogs’ ball-winner has done so on this occasion and kicked a goal for his struggling side.
The Bulldogs need a lot more plays like that one in the second half as they will go into half-time staring down a significant deficit.
Demons lead 60-34 with two mins left in Q2.
