Coronavirus Australia live news: Borders shut overnight, all eyes on Sydney's latest numbers after record testing yesterday - ABC News

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian was asked whether travel restrictions should be introduced, in light of the Northern Beaches resident who attended a leisure centre in Ulladulla.

She said she was confident the "strategy we've put in place is having the desired effect".

REPORTER: On a wider level, what's been done to protect regional New South Wales? And would you consider, if not putting Sydney into a lockdown, greater Sydney no a lockdown perhaps a travel ban or travel zone?

Look, at the moment, the trend is going where we want it to go, where we need to it to go. Yes, it's volatile but we're confident that the strategy we've put in place is having the desired effect. So the policy settings at the moment are doing what we need them to do, as long as everybody comes together and complies.

The vast majority of people have been just amazing and Dr Chant and I, when we saw the number of tests come through and the way in which people are complying, it really does give us a boost to know that the measures we have in place, plus the way the community is responding are really supporting us in getting on top of this latest outbreak.

In relation to some members of the community not doing the right thing, it's a very small minority and, again, in response to that specific question, remember our health advice also was that if you'd left the Northern Beaches after 10 December, you should be treating yourself as though you were living on the Northern Beaches.
