Today is going to be the last quiet day ahead of the rain & snow that will arrive Friday. We've seen partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. We even broke a record last night in Redding again at 25 degrees. The previous daily record was 27 degrees. Tonight will be warmer due to cloud cover.
With all that cold air, snow levels could drop to 2,500 feet tomorrow in Shasta county, causing travel conditons on I-5. Snow levels could be as low as 4,000 feet in Trinity county and 4-5,000 feet in the Sierra. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued in parts of the mountains ahead of this system. 2-6 inches are expected for areas getting snow, with localized totals up to 10 inches.
Rain in the foothill will be between a quarter of an inch to a whole inch. Valley areas will see a trace to a quarter inch in the central valley with half an inch to an inch in the north valley.
The timing of the system varies based on where you are. It will impact the coast Thursday night. Move into the Coast Ranges and our northern counties early Friday morning and for the rest of the area later in the morning and into the afternoon. It should cleqar for most by midnight Friday. Move of the rain & snow will move with the cold front.
Afternoon temperatures in the valley will also be much cooler with highs in the low-50s to upper-40s, depending on the timing of the system.
Saturday will remain mostly dry with a few lingering Sierra showers.
Sunday showers and snow will be possible in our northern counties toward to Oregon border, and even a chance of light drizzle in Redding. Otherwise, everyone in our region will remain dry.
Highs will be back in the upper-60s to low-70s on Monday & Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies.
Another system could impact us on Wednesday and Thursday.
