A reality TV producer who accused gangland widow Roberta Williams of bashing and threatening to kill him has denied lying about the “entire story”.
Ms Williams, 51, is accused of threatening to kill, extort and intentionally cause injury to producer Ryan Naumenko at a Collingwood studio on July 9, 2019.
The ex-wife of murdered crime boss Carl Williams appeared via videolink in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
“I was told I was going to be killed multiple times that night,” Mr Naumenko said on Wednesday about the alleged assault.
Ms Williams was working with the producer to create a “mob wives” style TV show, the court was told.
But before he went to police over the alleged attack he fired off an email to veteran crime reporter John Silvester, the court heard.
“I was tied up, beaten to an inch of my life, extorted, chocked [sic] with an electrical extension lead and forced to make calls to family members to transfer money to Roberta,” the email read.
He said in the email he was “almost murdered” two nights before and wanted to speak to someone at Purana taskforce.
But when questioned by defence barrister John Desmond he said he had “never” spoken to Mr Silvester “until then”.
The barrister also quizzed Mr Naumenko about whether the allegations were true.
“I’m putting to you your entire story is a fabrication as to what occurred,” Mr Desmond asked.
“That’s your opinion,” Mr Naumenko replied.
Mr Desmond suggested the producer was “scheming and scamming people” for much of his life and continued to do so, but Mr Naumenko denied this.
“Roberta told me a lot of lies too,” the alleged bashing victim said when asked about why he told Ms Williams he worked for TV networks, when he did not.
The lawyer said Mr Naumenko had a criminal history which included a “series of dishonesty offences” and questioned why the producer waited to see a doctor.
“I only went to a doctor because the police told me to,” the alleged victim said.
In an appointment with a doctor Mr Naumenko claimed he knew Roberta Williams and suggested she made “interesting revelations”, Mr Desmond said.
“You were big noting yourself to the forensic medical officer,” the barrister told the court.
The doctor was Gerald Murphy who examined the alleged bashing victim in the days after the incident and gave evidence in court.
He said Mr Naumenko told him a group of five to six men had kicked, punched and struck him with the butt of a gun and that he offered up other information about the assault.
“He [the victim] implied the people were bashing him were going to make a lot of money if they were going to take over the film,” Dr Murphy told the court.
The alleged victim’s injuries including bruising and swelling to his face, plus a cut to the scalp were consistent with an assault, the doctor said.
Four other men including Jake Sexton, Hassam Al Zwainy, James John Harrison and Daniel De Silva who face similar charges also appeared in court via video link. They deny all wrongdoing.
The hearing to determine whether the case will go to trial continues on Thursday.
