Professor Spurrier is asking a variety of questions, praising contact tracers and the ramped up schedule of contact tracing, but has started talking about the strain of this coronavirus, saying that it is "highly infectious" but clarified that it is not a new strain.
"What we're talking about is the genomics of this virus," Professor Spurrier said.
"This virus has come into South Australia a returned Australian, coming from the UK. Obviously the genomics of that, if they were testing in the UK, it would be of that scene in the UK. But it's the first time we have seen no particular strain in our state, because we haven't had any cases for a long time.
"The reason for looking at the genomics is to try and find out where it came from. One of the first things we did on Sunday was ring our scientist who sets up the lab to do the genomics, because we wanted to know how this person who tested positive on Saturday night.
"We wanted to know if it had come from one of our international travellers. And because we can link that fingerprint very precisely, we know exactly which room the person was staying in, and then we can go back and look at the infection time.
"So, for us in terms of trying to map out what we would expect for the epidemic, that information is critical. But there is nothing about the genomics in any way that makes it particularly special, it's just that we can fingerprint it and track it back to where it came from."
