NSW records third consecutive day with no locally transmitted coronavirus cases - ABC News

NSW has reported no new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 for the third day in a row.

In another day of positive news for the state, community cases are absent despite concerns earlier this week over clusters in Western Sydney.

Seven new cases were reported in overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

NSW Health said 12,465 tests were done in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

The testing rate is about the same level with the previous period, in which 12,890 tests were carried out.

Over the week, the state recorded no new local cases on Monday, but on Tuesday and Wednesday cases emerged that were linked to the Liverpool private health clinic cluster and Great Beginnings Childcare Centre in Oran Park.

Authorities continue to appeal for people in western, south-western and south-eastern Sydney to get tested.

NSW Health's Dr Christine Selvey said: "It's vital that you come forward for testing right away, even if you have the mildest of symptoms."

NSW has had 4,193 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The health authority said it was treating 77 people for COVID-19, but no patients are in intensive care..

NSW has carried out a total of 2,986,756 to date.

40,000 NRL fans head to final

Today's positive result comes as thousands of footy fans head to ANZ Stadium for the NRL Grand Final, in the state's biggest test yet of a large-scale event.

The stadium will be at 50 per cent capacity, welcoming 40,000 fans, and organisers have urged people to be mindful of safety.

"Fans should be aware there will be more people attending [Sunday's] event than there has been in recent months," it said in an online post.

"All guests are encouraged to be aware of their personal space while staying tolerant of those in close proximity."

Seating at the stadium will be allocated in a "checkerboard" system and people are being urged to stay seated unless buying food and drinks, or using the bathrooms.

Fans have also been encouraged to wear face masks on public transport and when entering and moving around the venue.

The will also be no cash transactions permitted — all payments inside the venue will be by card.

The women's NRL grand final between the Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters kicks off at 4:05pm AEDT.

The NRL grand final between the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm kicks off at 7:30pm.

Return to office on the cards

Due to the low transmission numbers, the Premier Gladys Berejiklian has indicated the Government wants more people to start returning to their office for work, especially in Sydney's CBD.

She has foreshadowed increasing the limits on passenger numbers on public transport to allow more people to get into the CBD, but said that would only happen if more people wore masks on trains and buses.

The NSW Government is concerned there has been a decline in mask wearing on public transport.

There's also a push to keep testing rates above 15,000 a day, which has not been reached on all days over the past few weeks.

A number of restrictions around gatherings were relaxed on Friday.

The limit on the number of people who can attend weddings and religious services was increased and 30 people can now sit together at table in a pub, restaurant and cafe.

Outdoor gatherings can now include 30 people, but the number of visitors to a home is still limited to 20.
