The deputy chair of the corporate watchdog has quit, after an audit raised concerns about $70,000 he was given in expenses.
Daniel Crennan QC says it is in the best interests of ASIC for him to resign.
The Australian National Audit Office flagged irregularities with payments made to Mr Crennan and ASIC chair James Shipton.
Mr Shipton has stood aside, pending the outcome of an investigation.Mr Crennan released a statement on Monday morning saying he had intended to retire from his position in July 2021.
"However, in the current circumstances, I have decided that it is in the best interests of ASIC for me to resign now," he said.
